This Sydney Youth Orchestras program comes to life with Wagner’s magnificent The Ring without words (Der Ring Ohne Werte), an orchestral selection from the world’s most epic opera. Leinsdorf’s arrangement features many of the Ring’s best moments including the Ride of the Valkyries, Magic Fire Music, Siegfried’s Funeral March and many more.
We are joined by violin virtuoso and former Sydney Symphony concertmaster Michael Dauth for a new violin concerto by Australian composer Lee Bracegirdle. Written especially for Sydney Youth Orchestras, expect the flair and brilliance of technique that makes Michael Dauth one of the most respected violinists of his generation.
Walton’s bright and boisterous overture Portsmouth Point opens our program. Inspired by Thomas Rowlandson’s etching of the English port town, Walton depicts the chaos and excitement of an English dock worker’s life in the 1800s.
