Australian children’s author, Andy Griffiths and illustrator, Terry Denton cleaned up at the Australian Book Industry Awards early this year. Griffiths’ and Denton’s book The 52-Storey Treehouse took home the Book of the Year Award – the first time in the 15 year history of these Awards that a children’s book has won the top prize.

The duo also took the prize for the Best Book for Younger Children (0 to 8 years), receiving praise for its “huge impact on encouraging young children to read, particularly boys”.

“It means so much to me to see children’s writing recognised,” Griffiths said. “And not just children’s writing but also really stupid absurd fiction that I never thought, never wanted, to be taken seriously…I’m very happy to accept this award on behalf of all those kids.”

A stage adaptation has the ability to make a story jump off the page and bring it to life for children. Riverside Theatres is committed to offering families the special experience that page to stage adaptations provide, not only for young bookworms, but also reluctant readers.

In keeping with this commitment, CDP’s production of Griffiths’ and Denton’s second story in the award-winning Treehouse series, The 26-Storey Treehouse comes to life on stage in August.

Adapted by award-winning playwright and author Richard Tulloch (Bananas in Pyjamas) this comes from the same cracker team that brought us the smash-hit stage version of The 13-Storey Treehouse last year.

Join us to experience Griffths’ and Denton’s first-class funny-adventure story, 18 – 19 August. Click here for more information and to book.
